Comment on Can I go on pointe? by Jaimie

Comment on Ideally, What should a dancer weigh? by Nancy

Lydia you are not "too fat" I started ballet at 14, and weighed 150. I changed studios after a year and am now en pointe, and have also lost about 40 pounds of fat(but built sooo much muscle!). You'll find that dance is AMAZING exersize but also very enjoyable=)

Comment on Petit Battma or “beats” by Ilda Zoller

I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful. You may need to take turns going around the group, or raising hands.

Comment on too old to start ballet?? by Ash

It's never too late... maybe to go to the top professionally it is too late, but you can still do it! Im 15. I started ballet in April. I have one class a week, and in the summer holidays i had no classes, so i have to practise at home. Despite starting in April, I'm doing my grade 4 exam in November, and while I'm no where ready yet, I'm gonna work hard so that i will be ready. If ur not flexible enough, it's not too late... just stretch every day, it may be slow but u'll get there, just be careful with stretches. Practising evry day will help with strength and if u feel overweight, don't go food free, rather, eat ur proper three meals, but eat small portions, and wait 15 minutes before you decide ur still hungry. and when grabbing a snack, always think, do i really need this (unless it's fruit, fruit and veg are gd) XD It's never too late if you work hard.

Comment on spcpa (what do you think?) by Shaadiah Swenson

SPCPA is a great school. I think it is very unfair for you to judge it based on pictures. The arts faculty are all working professionals in the field and hold a world of opportunities for young artists

Comment on Can I go on pointe? by Chloé

Hello, I too am very excited about going en pointe, if you feel you are ready then I think it would be worth plucking up the courage to ask your dance teacher if he/she thinks you are ready.. they'll have ways of determining this as they don't just look at your feet because other factors can determine how you dance en pointe. I started Ballet in December of 2009 and after six months or so was told I was ready for pointe(remember though, all dancers are different and become ready at different times) and will be starting classes in September, obviously my teacher thought I was ready for it. It's incredibly nerve racking, and as many other commentors have stated it's not to be entered into light heartedly, it requires a lot of strength and determination, so if you just want to go en pointe because you think it'll look cool and pretty then maybe now isn't the best time to start, however if you're serious then I wish you the best of luck. I'm going to get shoes fitted on Saturday and am extactic! It's every ballerina's dream and is almost a rite of passage, so good luck and best wishes for whenever you get en pointe.. keep us updated! Chloé

Comment on Late starter -Can I ever be good? by meliise97

I'm 13 years old and I danced at an RAD level since I was 4, But when I was 10 years old I seriously injured myself and my doctors advised me to take sometime of dance I had planned for 1 and a half years but when it came to the time I felt my body was just not ready. I know now for sure that I am capable but I will not be ably to pick up where I left of in my grades so I won't have my certificates. Will this affect my hopes of becoming a principle Ballerina??

Comment on Can I still get into the School of American Ballet (SAB)? by Krystal

I just have to say that it doesn't matter what age you started dance at because that doesn't matter. It's how deticated you are to the art. DO NOT go on Pointe without your dance teachers permission! Your teacher will need to make sure you have strong enough ankles and fully grown toes before going on. You could easily break a toe or hurt your ankle if they aren't ready and your young so they may not be. As in getting into SAB, you may have the same technique level but they choose dancers for what makes them shine. So you can try! But nobody can garuntee if you'll get in.

Comment on How do I point my foot properly? by Bridget Mckamey

Thank you! You often write very interesting articles. You improved my mood. But unlike its neighbor the small intestine, the colon doesn't actually absorb nutrients from the food you eat.
